Hi guys and greetings from Finland! You have so much knowledge and history here that you're the first I want to ask. Smiling
I have a reverted Philodendron Paraiso Verde ('Marina Ruy Barbosa' ) rootless top cutting coming my way in a week. I want to give it a shot.. Anyone have any experience with this and tips on trying to get the variegation back? More light seems like the obvious thing to try but I've also read that actually less light or more warmth might do the trick.. Thankful for any ideas.

Variegation is a genetic trait. It comes from a mutation in the plant's meristem tissue. It can either be stable, or unstable. It can also be quite variable.

Its been my experience that even reverted plants can produce variegation again...often when you least expect it. I took a completely green offshoot off of my highly variegated mother Philodendron White Wizard and planted it in the ground and attached it to a plumeria tree trunk. The first 3-4 leaves were green, but the newest is a really nicely variegated leaf. Whether the next leaves will be variegated or not is a toss up.

I have a friend who is fond of saying, 'Reversion of variegation is only a mutation away'. And he's right. I would give it a shot. You have nothing to lose, it will be a nice plant no matter what, right?

Gina thank you!! This gives me hope. I will do just that and let you know how the plant turns out. I got the cutting for super cheap so absolutely, I have nothing to lose and it will look amazing even all green.

I'll show you a photo of my Wizard cutting that was all green and then started to revert back a little. There is always hope.

This is my Mother White Wizard. She has always been highly variegated

She is old and is climbing up a support to about 10 ft. From time to time, she will grow a side shoot off of the meristem. Sometimes I leave them on, sometimes I take them off and start new plants. This one was all green, reverted, so I took it off

Then it put out one barely speckled white leaf, followed by this nice leaf. Hopefully it will keep making nice leaves

Unfortunately my Paraiso Verde was cancelled because of thrips but we´ll see, maybe I´ll get a chance to buy it again. Crossing Fingers!
