Hoping there's someone out there who can help me decide where to stick the three types of nicotiana I have.
I have a fairly shady garden (urban, surrounded by buildings); one bed gets PM sun, one gets AM sun, and one area gets, at best, bright shade. I grew three varieties of nicotiana from seed, and am hoping to put them each in the best place for growth. I know they are all more or less happy in partial shade, but I've read some comments in blogs and books that toss out generalities like "some varieties do better in shade than others"; however, these sites are of no help whatsoever in terms of specifying WHICH varieties do best where (other than a note on one site that said alata varieties do better with more sun). Hoping to put some in the shadier area of my garden, if they'll work. And I've done a lot of research on this, with little to show for it. So I'm going to the experts, you guys :).
Exactly 27 plants, weirdly 9 of each of the following:
N. mutabilis "Marshmallow"
N. x hybrida "Whisper" (an F1 variety for which I can't find the parentage; one site says it is "sanderae," one says it is another mutabilis, and I know that most hybrids have some alata...)
N. suaveolens
The best help I could find was that the UK seed site for Sarah Raven has the "Whisper" in its shade nicotiana mix. The Marshmallow and Whisper are the taller of the three; should I just go with that note and stick the Whisper in the shadier areas?
