Thread OP

Hey plant peeps -- I tried looking through the forums for some advice, but figured I'd make a post.

Thumb of 2021-05-01/brendan90/2ac5bb

I literally just received my first P. Gloriosum and when I unboxed it, I realized the roots are not coming out of the rhizome, but instead, the roots are coming out above of the rhizome (as shown above). All of the material I've read said to not bury the rhizome, so I was wondering which of the following options you would recommend for the new plant?
1. Bury the rhizome and repot to where the current roots are
2. Do not bury the rhizome when repotting
3. Remove rhizome and repot plant

I've read on here that folks generally do not recommend letting the roots sit in water, so I'm going to remove the plant now and put it in some lightly moist NZ sphagnum. I've also read that I should try and repot them in their final mix about 3 days after I received the plant to minimize transplant shock, so that's my general game plan at the moment.

Any advice would be super appreciated!

I would remove (very carefully) the plant from the old mother meristem and pot it up. The meristem looks like it is rotting. You could let it dry out a but and pot it separately and see if you can get it to resprout again, you never know.

I always pot the meristem under the soil. That is how Gloriousum creeps, under the soil, putting up new plants like the one you have that develop their own root system and serve to anchor the stem into the ground. Your plant has its own root system now and can be taken off
