This plant was part of my experiment in propagation by quartering. I now have 4 flowering hippies. I thought I purchased a Red Lion at WM but these pics make me think I have h. Johnsonii. Any opinions? The flowers are so trumpety.

Sure looks like what I have.

BTW, I thought h. Nagano was orange.

color might variate from one monitor to another, also from amount of nitrogen that bulb receive a year before the bloom, see my pictures of Apple bloomsome, it can be anything from bright pink to almost a white color.

Yours could be H. johnsonii, Looking at the database for that cultivar, there is a lot of variation in the appearance of the bloom, but the pattern is spot on. My H. Nagano looks to be more coral. but again this is based on my particular photo.

Nagano, yes. Varaions but still in the orange coral peach family. After about 10 of a particular color I gave up on collecting b/c a lot of them seemed same plant was/diff names. Never have been able to grow papilio or ones with similar look.

RC, don't get me started on that co. I voiced my op on The other site. I think they resented entitled Americans but unfortunately they painted ALL the citizens with that same brush. Oh well.....

Ahhhh, the mystery completely solved. I had planted the h. Johnsonii but I also planted a Red Lion, which was the one I used in my quartering experiment. Today I remembered that I planted them together b/c they were both red.
