Thread OP

Hi everyone! Need some suggestions.

My neighbor unexpectedly put up this six-foot fence that we really aren't too pleased with, so we're looking to put something like bushes, vines, etc in front of it, that will maybe get to be 10-12 feet tall, is fast growing, and isn't too expensive. There's some shade from the trees there so there's that to take into some consideration too. Maybe something evergreen if possible (I'm in zone 6).

Here are some pictures I took from two angles. (And yes I did just plant that tree there with the stakes by it, so I'd also like something that won't interfere with that!)

Thank you! :)

I don't know what to recommend but I notice the fence is casting a shadow. It would probably be good to know what direction your side of the fence is facing to help others recommend things for you.

Anything that gets 10-12 feet tall and planted close to the fence will most likely have limbs that hang out across the fence/property line. I might be wrong, but I think that the other property owner has the right to trim any limbs hanging over his property. FWIW.

As I mentioned, I don't know what to recommend. I'm really not a tree/bush person....vegetables are what I work with mostly. Maybe cedar shrubs or something similar???

The fence is on the south end of our property. This was taken in the early afternoon, so the shadow is casting towards the northwest here.

And yeah, I'm thinking something tall and wide, but doesn't stick out too much. I checked out those cedar shrubs and they look similar to some arborvitaes that I've been browsing, but it looks like some sun. So I'm wondering if those shadows will be a problem there...
