Not sure if I'm looking at graptulatum or a bluish sedum, but we finally survived another NY winter and it's time for my stragglers to go back outside and be rewarded with tons of light and heat until I am forced to torture them through another winter.

I love their draping habit, but they're in pretty bad shape.. foot long stems mostly bare with just a couple widely spaces small leaves and happy Rosettes at the tip. I'm going to cut them and root the cuttings... but my question is,
Will a leafless base ever really grow back well? Even under ideal conditions?
Do I cut out the bare sections from both ends and give the tips a solid base close to the soil? Should I lay them horizontally and pin them to the soil surface and wait for side shoots?

My growing season is only about 100 days from now, +/-. I used to be really excited about any new growth, but after a couple years of watching new buds form slowly and never quite mature well, I'm ready to slice and dice in whatever way will give me the best outcome in terms of vigorous growth and lush results. I'd rather have two fat healthy vigorous stems than a billion Babies that struggle.

I've learned to thin annual seedlings in my garden for the best outcome, but when it comes to these dest beauties in NY, I'm still having trouble with figuring out how to be ruthless, or if I should be ruthless and in what way?
The plural of anecdote is not data.
The plural of bozos is Dasilyl - so please don't engage with my website troll who typically caches my first post and responds ugly just to be nasty. If it gets upity, please ignore it.

I think a picture might really help folks give a better answer here.
