Maybe some environmental stress like a change in rainfall or sunshine? If the soil is getting too dry, water or add mulch. They also fall off the plant when temps are above 35C or below 13C.

Can you post a photo of the rest of the plant?

How old is it? How long since you transplanted it? What is th name of the pepper?

It could be a lack of pollination or too young or a combination.

This can be caused by many things, including stress from temperature fluctuations, over or under watering, not enough sun, or what I expect, the flowers are not being pollinated. Peppers are self pollinating but need a visit from a pollinator to loosen the pollen from the male parts to the female. Wind can also do the job. If you have an old electric toothbrush you can gently put it on the flower to stimulate a pollinator.

Also the plant just might not have been ready. Any update on this. I had this problem last year with my peppers. Its better this year.

From what I've found extreme temperatures can cause this...too hot or too cold.

Lack of pollination...fruits without seeds aren't producing proper hormone levels so the plant jettisons the fruit because it doesn't fulfill it's reproduction purpose.

My *very* rudimentary take on pollination is that each tiny grain of pollen causes a seed to form. The seed formation creates hormones which signal the plant that "all is well" and to "send nourishment, etc" to this fruit because it will secure the future generations of the plant. And, with the more hormones the healthier and larger the fruit grows.

I used to grow birdhouse gourds for purple martins and the trick was to heavily hand pollinate the female flowers...rather than 10-12 inch gourds you'd end up with 14"+ gourds due to the more seeds produced and thus more hormones.

This is all unscientific and simply anecdotal experience. Thumbs up
