Hello!

I have this potted fig tree and over the course of two days almost all of it's leaves turned yellow and spotted. It's been SUPER rainy here for over a week with very high humidity, which I know figs do not love, but given the spots and the sudden onset of the disease, I'm suspecting more of a fungus or bacteria...can anyone help identify and if so, which/how to treat?

I've removed all the sicker leaves (they practically fell off when touched) and left only a few young ones which weren't spotted yet.

Thanks so much!! I've been waiting for it's first crop and know it seems it'll be ruined by fungicide Crying

I don't think there's any disease at work here: this is the typical look fig leaves take around here in the Fall when the weather starts turning colder and wetter. Or folks plant them in their gardens and overwater them. Hilarious!
In short it's a standard reaction to less than optimal growing conditions.

I also see your plant is potted, which is something figs don't really like, chiefly because it's hard to find an off-the-shelf potting medium that suits them. Too much compost, too much sphagnum moss... figs don't like that. They are adapted to low quality, rocky soils.

Finally there's another consideration: isn't Mexico City 7,000ft above sea level or something like that? Here we are considerably lower than that and we are at the upper limit where they can be successfully grown.
I am just another white boy who thinks he can play the Blues.

Hi PolloDiablo!

Thanks for your reply!
We are indeed quite high in altitude but figs like it here, I actually have another fig about 20 mts away from that one, also potted, that's thriving. It DID turn yellow-brownish and dropped all it's leaves when the rainy season started, but it took about three weeks to do that and the new growth is healthy...what bothers me about the sick one I posted about is that it only took two days to turn yellow, spotted and sick-looking. Friday it was looking lush, green, healthy and then monday, BAM, all the leaves looked like that!

But maybe you're right, perhaps it decided over the sun-less weekend "i'm done with this weather, bye bye leaves"...I'll keep a look out for the new growth to see how it fares.

Thanks again!
