I'm asking since I'd been considering getting some for use over my strawberry patch (blackbirds have been frequenting it), but am concerned it might harm them. As a long time vegan and animal-lover, I especially don't like the idea of hurting wildlife just for strawberries which I can buy at the supermarket if needs be.

My husband told me he remembers his dad (a once avid, expert gardener) having to periodically check the netting to ensure no birds had gotten their heads/necks trapped among it. It's mandatory that I keep odd hours so worry I wouldn't be around were this to happen. And, let us just say, my husband isn't exactly reliable when it comes to all things gardening.

Also, are there other options for deterring birds away from the berries? We only just set up the bird feeder we keep in the garden this time of year so I'm hoping that may distract both them and their tummies as well.

Thanks for any help/advice!
