Paging @mcvansoest for expert agave advice.

It is hard to know given how relatively small it still is.

Two possibilities to look at:

Agave avellanidens - frequently more green than this, but I have seen some that go glaucous-grey.
Agave azurea - this is a very xeric agave.

Not sure if either of these would survive outside in 8a, so if they have done that, these are probably not it.

The possibility of some random hybrid is of course also significant, especially if this came from a big box store.

thank you mcvansoest ...yes this was found in a Lowe's succulent ghetto , along with a Agave titanota 'Rancho Tambor' Agave , which was marked with a name. (photo attached). Since I grow agaves and love these plants, I was pretty excited to see these! I will make note of your suggestions on the glaucous one and see how it develops.
