I have 2 large hens & chicks that I need to divide. One is about 2 x 2' and the other about 2 x 3'. I 'm starting a new bed, also & may sell some. Should I move the mothers (several 10" wide) or just the pups ? Also, am confused from conflicting videos, do I harden them off before planting, or just stick them directly in the soil ?

The best time to move these are in the early spring just as they start to grow. About March here in Washington. You can move them now but it's harder to get them going again.

You might give a more detailed instruction.

Thank you. I've potted quite a few & they are doing pretty good considering the heat...going through some shock. I'm afraid I'll lose a lot due to how crowded they are. But if it's better to wait til next year, I will. All of my succulents grew really good last & this year, so they're really starting to crowd each other out

Hi Patgodden, and welcome to NGA and the Sempervivum forum. Welcome!
Here in the Willamette Valley of Oregon we have had some very unusual weather, and we are starting into what is our drought season and higher temps. Then again, maybe we already had our August weather? Rolling my eyes.
I agree with Julia, this can be a more difficult time to get them going.
What you might try is water the area you will be planting them into, and water the plants thoroughly. The next day in the cool of the morning/or evening do the transplanting. Water them in. Provide some kind of shade if the temps get high, or if they are in direct sun. Or you can wait until spring like Julia suggested.
The rosettes that are going to bloom can be left in place until the bloom finishes and the rosette dies.
Nice photo. Thumbs up

Thanks guys. Guess I'll err on the side of caution and wait til next spring. My new bed was supposed to go in this spring, but I'm almost 70 , can't haul all the sand, etc. Anymore, so kinda have to wait til someone comes around who can help. Maybe by next year !

Welcome!!!!!! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! Hurray! Hurray!

I ten to wait for the babies to root first, than taking them off... I had a semp a few years back (my first one) and it worked with no failure.

There is another kind of Echeveria that is also called hens and chicks, but is not a sempervivum, which, can cause confusion. Usually for those succulents you would wait for then to calluse so they dont rot. You could do it with semps, but if they have roots you probably wouldnt have to.

Also i think the largest semp at the second picture is blooming??
