Thread OP

After July, the country has been experiencing high temperatures one after another, but the cute succulents have entered a defensive mode in such a high temperature-into a semi-dormant or dormant state.

In addition to slowing down or even stopping the growth rate, its appearance color will also change significantly, the color will become lighter or even disappear, more green, gray-green, and severely will even directly fall off the leaves, until they die.
So how can c survive the summer safely? In addition to a few things to do during the summer, there are a few things that cannot be done. Any of these things is "stabbing a knife in the back" to succulents to see if you have a mistake.
1. Overwatering
many people just can't help it. All problems are solved by watering: watering if the condition is not good, watering if the leaves are falling, watering if the color is faded...Anyway Just keep watering whenever you encounter any problems. The result of this kind of is that the pot soil will be wet for a long time, and the roots will rot quickly under the high temperature state. At this time, it will Irretrievable.

2.Cuttings propagation
Most of the succulents in the summer enter the semi-dormant or dormant period, and the growth is very slow, and poor adaptability to new soil environment, and the survival rate is very low in hot weather. Therefore, the summer is not suitable for cutting head cutting propagation, including leaf cutting propagation.
On the other hand, it is because of the dormant period of succulents in summer, at this time cutting branches can not hold Grow more branches back the long. On the contrary, at this time, cutting branches may cause difficulty for the mother plant to pass the summer, and may even cause the wound of the mother plant to be infected by fungus and rot.
3. change the pot and turn the soil
Turning the soil and changing the pot generally requires cleaning and replacing the entire soil in the pot, and cleaning the dead roots of the plants at the same time. This will cause damage to the root system of the plant and leave wounds. On the one hand, it is easy to cause fungal infections, on the other hand, the high temperature in summer makes the succulents grow slowly or even stop growing, making it more difficult to adaptability new soil environment. This can easily cause succulents death.
The succulent growth period is mostly in spring and autumn, the temperature is suitable and the weather is cool, the succulent growth rate is fast, and it is easy to adaptability new soil environment. At this time, More suitable to change the pots and turn the soil.

4.fertilization
Succulents grow fast, and the demand for water and fertilizer is obvious; on the contrary, if it is in a dormant state, the demand for water and fertilizer is low. Therefore, improper fertilization in summer may cause injury and burn roots.
In addition, due to the high temperature in summer, whether it is to put granular fertilizer in the pot or increase the base fertilizer by repotting the soil, you may face the problem that the succulents need to adapt to the soil after entering the pot.
The fertilization season is also in spring and autumn. At this time, you can change pots, turn the soil, fertilize, and so on.

5. picking dead leaves
In summer, succulent not only loses its fades, but also loses its leaves. Dead leaves appear on the bottom or outer layer. Most of the dead leaves that are depleted will slowly fall by themselves, but some remain in the bottom layer or even tightly wrapped in the outer ring. Someone saw that these were withering or were already dead leaves, and they felt Affect the ornamental of plants, so they would directly pick or pull out these dead leaves.
but do this on the one hand, it may cause damage to the plants, and it is easy to be infected by fungi when it is hot and humid; on the other hand, the dead leaves has a protective effect on some succulent . Direct plucking and pull out will accelerate the Plant malaise or Spoil the appearance.

What else is not suitable to do for summer? Welcome everyone to add exchanges.

So many beautiful plants! Do you mind if I ask where you are to better compare climates? Are your plants able to stay outside all year?

I agree

Yes, I am curious about what kind of temperatures you experience at this time of year, because most of the plants in that first picture aren't the kind that normally survive in a really hot climate.

I find this discussion of how to get succulents to thrive in a challenging climate very interesting, to the extent we have no extremes of temperature here at all, one way or the other. (Our average high temp in July has been 22°C.) But I think what you have described ought to helpful for those people who do face this challenge and want to be smart about how to get their plants through it.
