A garden is more than just plants.

Last year I had a couple seedlings pop up in the front bed.. This year I potted them up to move them, and they seem quite a bit different from the Mother. Where she is mostly green, they are mostly red..
Is this a hybrid? Cultural?
Is it an OMEN?! Confused

Whatever it is, I'm not hating it. Love to hear the thoughts of those of you with more experience in culturing these, because I have little experience with them thus far. Not sure what variety it is either, as it came with the house. Here they are pictured with the Mother in the background.

You either serve the whole, or you serve the hole.. The difference can be subtle if you don't pay attention.

It's a hylotelephium.
Of which specific one, I can't ID until it blooms Hilarious!
In fact, it might be new!!! :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I'm hoping for new too! My daughter had a few cuttings of different ones last year and I'm wondering if that was what happened. The mother is just starting to flower now.. I expect the new ones aren't far behind.

The seedlings are starting to open now, they seem very similar to the parent.. Maybe a smidge lighter, but that's probably just the lighting.

Something else, maybe worthy of noting.. When the new shoots start on these, they are mostly green with a red tinged edge and then slowly transition to the darker leaves. I haven't caught them yet, but I'm pretty sure the leaf damage is from the band of house sparrows that came with the house.

That is usuall, once the bloomstalks fade it will slowly die back to the new shoots, so the old stems are very stressed, I have a hylotelephium seedling that when leaves are going to die off they turn vermilion.

So, just so I have you correct.. You are saying the color variation of the seedlings are due to them being stressed?

Perhaps.
It would be more accurate if you observed both of them throughout the year.

What I would do, is, make an entry in your plant list as "Seudm seedling" or "Hylotelephium seedling" and "Sedum parent" , and when you post pohtos of them (Maybe once a week, once twice a week, or once a month perhaps) Label them with number or write the date in the description of the. plant photo when you upload..
Or, you could just quickly see if the new growth on the parent plant is the same

Thanks! I took a look at the parent yesterday and, it looks like the leaves are mainly green until they start to put out the flower stalk.. Then the midrib turns red. I didn't have any freshly new ones to observe, so I will try to catalog some pictures.. Now that I have a name to put it under.

I appreciate the insights!
