We are new to beekeeping this year, and concerned about the prevalence of mites in typical hives. Definitely, we don't want them in ours. Also very interested in doing things naturally, I was wondering if there weren't companion plants that might be planted right next to a hive that would benefit the bees living there? I don't know if there are plants that repel bees, and I certainly wouldn't want any like that, but things like Artemisia (wormwood), Lavender, and Thyme are companions I already have plans to plant nearby. Rue seems good too, for general bug repellence. Does anyone know if any of these plants, or others, would be specifically helpful planted next to a hive?
Thanks for any help!

All of t he plants you mentioned are great for honey bees. The thyme is especially good snce it contains thymol.
You can find several articles on here listing other plants for the bees. Just do a search for Mindy03 in the article page search box and it will bring them up.
I'm not sure planting the plants near the hive will work that well. Our bees seem to like going away from the hives to forage. The plants can be planted anywhere in your yard and they will find them.
Here their favorites seems to be hycinaths, sunflowrss, lavender and any herbs
Good luck with your adventure in beekeeping

You also run the risk of getting your hives robbed. if you're feeding bees from other colonies right next to yours it might be a bad thing
