I enjoyed the podcast very much!
Trish, I was so glad to hear you say that there will be times when one gets "holes" in their Hugelkulture beds! I had wondered about this as I thought about the process & had pretty much decided that it stands to reason holes would happen. Now I know for sure they will & what to do about them when they do.

Ann- I also found that the bigger (taller) the bed, the more holes. Makes since, I know...the more wood there is rotting down, the more collapsing is going to take place. With the first huge bed, I just got into the habit of taking a spade and poking around every now and then (say, every couple of weeks). This kept the soil moving down into the pockets, and I had less surprises. With our new swales (made last year), they are much shorter, and I'm getting minimal pockets. Instead of trucking over filler in a wheelbarrow like I did with the tall beds, I simply take from the side, or smush more from around the hole.

Thanks Trish. Sounds good to me. I see some Huglekulture beds in my future. Hurray!

'Finally had time to sit quietly and listen. Enjoyed the podcast, especially the questions from the "audience." A couple of those were things I had wondered about also, so I was glad to hear the answers. And I'm also happy you liked my planting tip!
