according to Illinois wildflower site Senna hebecarpa is wild senna

and Senna marilandica is Maryland senna

The Illinois page tells how to differentiate (although difficult) between the two. Common names aren't fixed like botanical (Latin) plant names so can vary between locations. If you see it again check out the pistils for long white hairs as suggested in the link:

Here is the pistil. Are they short appressed hairs, or long spreading hairs?
