Missouri Botanical Garden: 'American Gold Rush' is a naturally compact cultivar (a bit more compact than 'Goldsturm') with narrow, 2 inch wide hairy foliage bred for its resistance to septoria leaf spot. Gorgeous bright, yellow-gold flowers bloom from July to September. The cultivar has smaller foliage and shorter height compared to its seed parent, Rudbeckia fulgida var. deamii. Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii 'Goldsturm' 8/2021 Black Eyed Susan- (Black Ryed Susan) Black Eyed Susan, Mature size: 2x2', Golden yellow, daisy like with black cones. Zone 4-8. At corner of garage., USDA Hardiness Zone 3, Michigan Bloom Month 7b, In Garden Bed Y0,1,2 for 13.1 YEARS (LOK). Planted in 2008.

Missouri Botanical Garden: 'Goldsturm' is an upright, rhizomatous, clump-forming perennial which typically grows 2-3' tall. Features large, daisy-like flowers (3-4" across) with deep yellow rays and dark brownish-black center disks. Flowers appear singly on stiff, branching stems in a prolific, long-lasting, mid-summer-to-fall bloom. Oblong to lanceolate, dark green foliage. Good fresh cut flower. 'Goldsturm' is a slightly more compact plant (to 2' tall) with larger and brighter flowers (to 4" diameter) than the species or variety. 'Goldsturm' was introduced in 1937. It won the 1999 Perennial Plant of the Year award. 'Goldsturm' today is one of the most popular garden perennials in cultivation.

Introduced in 1949 under the name 'Goldsturm', which means Golden Storm. I put this plant in the front birdhouse garden, greenhouse garden and back west slope garden. Spreads like a weed. Reduced plant in 2020.
