Saw this plant in my Brooklyn neighborhood--I want one! Can anyone identify it?

Taro!

Find an Asian grocery with a produce section. You should find a few different varieties.

Grocery store ones will grow and super cheap.Plenty of warmth and water and fertilizer. You can mail order or sometimes in the spring display of bulbs might find elephant ear, cost more but probably big leaves faster.
I grew an eddo and a yautia one year from the grocery store. One is Colocasia .. the other another close genus.. I have the info somewhere.. slightly different leaf shape. Both tropical looking and fun.
Plant it and they will come.

My notes say this is sold as Yautia. And that it was taller and bigger leafed than what I got as edible taro eddo at same store
Arrow Leaf Elephant's Ear (Xanthosoma sagittifolium)
Plant it and they will come.

I grew Satoimo for years on the edge of my pond. Its really pretty (but slightly smaller than taro) and taste good. I like taro, a pretty edible, but not that Hawaiian wallpaste stuff. It makes great bread and Taro cream buns. Yummm...

Thank you so much everyone! I've had taro flavored products before (Trader Joe's has had a bunch recently) and had no idea it came from this plant! I love the jungle like look. I am going to look for some to plant in my garden!

Be sure to buy good-quality (preferably planting quality) corms. Some corms that I bought from the grocery store that I planted did not sprout and just rotted.

Thanks, what should I look for in a good corm?

Buy corms that have been labeled for planting. Grocery store corms are often treated with sprout inhibitors, which makes them less likely to spoil but also less suitable for planting.
