No sign of buds forming yet. Why must this plant (several copies are scattered around my yard) always make such a late entrance? It never gets into full swing until right before the first frost. B. suaveolens. This spot is in the sun about half of the day. I see these blooming in a lot more shady spots in other people's yards. Did I aim for too much sun? Is it just triggered by even days/nights, or longer nights?

That looks great! TY for the suggestion! I've given this compost and a little weak fertilizer while doing potted plants. But that little splash or two probably wasn't enough to have even bothered for a ground plant. It had a 3rd branch but I snipped it to propagate last weekend.
My asked-about plant is this same plant that yielded this pic 2016. The blooms have a beautiful scent:
