We have these gorgeous trees at the hospital where I work, and I would like your help identifying them. I think they look like some sort of holly tree. Do any of you know which type this is? Thank you so much!

Probably a holly (ilex spp.) but I can't tell which one.

The leaf sure does resemble this trademarked Red Holly, Ilex 'Oak Leaf' in our database:

I think I agree with Peggy8b regarding which Holly...

To which I'll add: there are a group of selections (5, I think) which comprise the Red Holly series of Holly hybrids, which are selected seedlings from fruit from Ilex x 'Mary Nell'. 'Oakleaf' is but one. A review of garden centers and nurseries in your area of Texas might reveal which ones are commonly grown/sold. 'Festive', 'Robin Red', 'Little Red', and 'Patriot' are other members of this series of hybrids.

We don't grow a lot of Hollies here on the West Coast, but we do grow many of the Osmanthus species. O. heterophyllus looks very similar...

Osmanthus heterophyllus leaves may look similar.
However Osmanthus leaves are opposite.see my pic 1 - 3
While Ilex...common name Holly are alternate..see my pics 4 -5

Leaves in first post are alternate...therefore it is Ilex sp.

Thanks Silversurfer.. Of course you're right.. I got lazy and didn't check close ups of my osmanthus pictures...
What is that exquisitely variegated Ilex in your 4th picture?

Thank you for the kind comments re pic 4.
I am rather fond of hollies.
