When the 'Festiva Maxima' peonies were in bloom. They formed a dense carpet at the foot of the Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar throughout the growing season... and for about two weeks in late spring they were literally smothered in enormous white double blooms. Congregants who came to night services said they could smell the peonies fragrance from 15 feet away. This photo was taken about five years after the plants were installed. Atlas Cedars are dependable in central Oklahoma, but they have a slow growth rate here. I was surprised, and pleased, that this one had filled out as well as it has.
