I live in zone 6a in New York, my amaryllises have been outside since early summer, and just as I'm about to prep them for dormancy I notice new growth from 2 of the bulbs. Some of the new growth is definitely leaves, other growth looks thicker and rounder. Has anyone experienced this? And if so, should I put them into dormancy, or bring them inside for the remainder of the season? Any suggestions are appreciated!

I attached a picture (I think?). It's my first time here so if the picture isn't posted I can try to repost it and/or include more. Thanks!

It looks as if there are one or two offshoots of the original bulb that are trying to send up leaves and possibly one or two flower scapes. You can't leave them outside to freeze. Try bringing the pot inside and growing it as a houseplant. The big bulb probably won't flower at Xmas, but it should flower in the spring. The bulbs may go into dormancy on their own, with a shorter day length, and the new growth may die back. Love to see what happens to the baby bulbs. Some Amaryllis cultivars form clumps very quickly. They want to put their energy into lots of bulblets. Some cultivars just make bigger bulbs without producing bulblets. Keep us updated on this.

Thank you for the advice! I did bring it in, the pot it was in outside was a cheap one with a few cracks so it's been transplanted along with another amaryllis that also has new growth, although significantly less, and is living in a window for the winter. Since then the main leaves have died off but the new growth continues and there's even been more growth in the last week. Please excuse the foil and rocks, I have very naughty kitties who dig up any dirt they can get their paws on so all my plants need some extra protection. I peel the foil off daily to check for new growth and rearrange stones as necessary. I do know that one of the two plants is a white flower, and that another is a pink flower that has 4 flowers on each stem. Unfortunately I don't remember which is which, neither bloomed last year. I will update as their growing progresses. Thank you for your help!

Update - new growth continues slowly but surely, and the main bulb is now working on sending up a flower! I will keep updating as it grows

Well, you may have a pre-Christmas flower. Very rarely, a bulb will bloom twice in a year.

Update - All three of these amaryllis were treated exactly the same throughout the summer, but because of new growth on two the red one was the only one that went through dormancy. The main leaves died off on the two potted together after they came in. The bulb with new growth is now sending up a flower and leaves, and it doesn't seem like there's any activity with the other bulb. So interesting that different types grow so differently!
