Thread OP

Howdy! Live in Rockport, TX. Love Roses, Hibiscus and Gardenias. After the Big Freeze have had to replant everything, even here on the coast it was below 25 day and night for several days. Got several questions if you have the time to answer:
1. Fox Farm's potting soil. I have tried them all and settled on Happy Frog. Comments/suggestions?
2. Bioadvanced 3 in 1 for systemic pests, nearly lost two Hibiscus this year, one to Spider Mites and one to White Flies, terrible infestations that I finally had to use Bifern IT to kill the darn things, it seemed as if they used Capt Jack's Dead Bug for a cocktail.
3. What pesticide do you recommend?
4. What do you think of the Fox Farm Kangaroots or MicroBrew?
5. Native (multi generation) Texan and like using products from Texas, your view of the Nelson line of fertilizers?

Thanks, know it is a lot but need HELP!!

Welcome to the Texas forum! I have only used the Bioadvance product before on Roses. It seemed to have worked well to control the black spot and give them a shot of fertilizer. Fortunately I didn't have many problems with insects so will probably not buy again unless I have a specific problem. I don't like sprays, but also I'm afraid of harming bees etc with a systemic.

Can't really address your questions, but wanted to Welcome! you to the forums @MarkA70. I'm in Central, TX. but lived in Galveston for 30+ years before retiring up here (to avoid hurricanes). I'm a naturalized Texan, as my Texan husband calls me. My father was born/raised around Texarkana, so I'm about 75% native, LOL. N.C. tarheel by birth, actually, as Dad was USAF stationed there when my folks got married.

Rockport is Corpus, guys. 9b (For area.) I like the Foxfarms/Happy Frog, but here nw of Houston 1 hr, I like to change up what I use each year. Nelsons Water Gardens is only ref to Nelsons I come up with. Lots of water, storms come to land there, hmmm, I like systemics on stuff I don't eat, but spider mites are tough to kill like other arachnoids, white flies we use native lantana to attract them, then go to killing them, I don't use just one type of pesticide, I cycle thru several so the bugs don't get used to them. Constant battle no matter what you do. Apparently native forms of your plants don't attract the bugs as much, but it doesn't help the addiction.
So many roads to take, choices to make, and laughs to share!
