I had a bunch of them (E. Under oaks) in containers for over 10yrs, but clearing that area out so gave some to neighbors, one of which has an A/C venting right where would've been a good spot for one of them, shady spot, nice location visually; but I moved it further down because I didn't think it would do well with the hot A/C blowing on it. What do you think? And another location there is some afternoon sun, think that'll be too much for them?

No, they don't like hot wind which is what the exhaust is. They also don't do well in lots of sun, especially if they've been growing in the shade.
