Hello. Can you help me identify these? What variety is this? It is edible?

They just popped up this summer in our garden, and we never had this kind planted before. They were 4, I broke one to see how's inside. The inside is light yellow, not very thick, and the seeds are white, beautiful and pretty "fat". Dimensions: 16 cm (6,2 inches) long, "meat" thickness - 2,5 to 3cm (1 inch or so...)
Thank you

I did that, but it seems that uploading a photo doesn't working. I'll try again.

Welcome!

Based on the stems and the fact the plants are dead but the fruits haven't rotted, it looks like a pumpkin. What does it smell like? Are there any leaves you can show us (or describe)?

Yes, edible. Clearly in the squash and pumpkin clan.
But, tasty, not stringy, sweet?.. all probably a guess. Just have to try it.
Plant it and they will come.

Hey. Thank you :)
My mother tested it, she says it has no smell, no taste. As for the leaves, I have to wait for the photos made by one of my cousins, they were made somewhere in the summer when there were leaves and possibly a flower or two. I'll come back when I have them Smiling

Hello there Smiling
I managed to upload them, it seems there are missing details (leaves), I wait for a relative to send me some older photos.

As they 'just popped up' they may be from kitchen waste or last year's crops? There are several species and some can even mix.

Hi there :)
No, these have no taste and no smell. My mother tested the one I opened.

Could be kitchen waste, though what I ate was roasted pumpkin seeds (well, I tried to eat them - because they were too dry and the shell was very hard to remove without breaking the seed in tiny pieces). No, I'm sure that was not the last year's crop, we had pumpkins before, but not this variety.
Is there any possibility that the seeds could survive the roasting process? Since I didn't manage to ate many of them, I throwed them as they were. I guess one of them was strong enough to grow. That could be interesting.

No, after you baked them, they will not germinate.

Hey guys ;)
Got the other photos of the pumpkins, they were still growing at the time. There is no photo of the flowers, though, but I can tell you that flowers were orange, elongated.

Seeds travel. They're designed for travel. Birds and animals (carry seeds in a variety of ways Smiling ), incomplete composting, bird feeders, wind... I'm always amazed at what pops up in my yard without being planted by me. I live at the very top of a hill, everything is downhill but the seeds still arrive somehow.

I planted seeds from a small perfectly shaped tiny orange pumpkin I bought last fall. Got at least 7 different varieties. Some white some a lot larger some elongated. It was a great surprise!

Welcome to NGA! Lots of good folk here.

My first thought was some kind of Asian melon. It looks like some I grew this year. You said the flesh was white, was it dense and moist like a squash or juicy like a melon? How big is the fruit itself?

This is an acorn, used as food today and way back in history. It grows on the oak tree. There are many recipes using them. Hope you can pick up enough to make something tasty.
