Hi all,

I've had his cactus for about 20 years and it has multiplied well at my parents' farm in north-east Victoria. It flowers in late spring and produces large, trumpet-shaped blooms that open late in the day and often on a moonlit night. I've never gotten around to working out exactly what it is. Here's some photos of it in bloom this weekend (this is probably about a quarter of how much it has propagated since I got it):

Any help identifying it would be much appreciated.

You're sweet Hamwild but mcvansoest might be a better choice for cactus IDs. From what I can see though, it looks like an Echinopsis.

Australis, can you post a photo of the cactus body and give some measurements?

Check out Echinopsis 'Big Bertha'.

From my quick search I'd say it is pretty close to a dead ringer...

Thanks Daisy and mcvansoest. It certainly looks like an Echinopsis.

I don't know if it is 'Big Bertha', as I've never seen it produce flowers anywhere other than the very top at what I assume is the growth point (never from the sides).

As it is at my parents', I can't give you exact measurements, but here is an older photo my mum sent me:
Thumb of 2021-11-15/Australis/a20b85

I have not seen it get taller than about 12" (perhaps 18" on rare occasion) and is around 3 to 4" across.

I thought the sideways view of the blooms was telling, associating the longish flower tube with Echinopsis, correct?
