There's this one semp I've been looking at, and the people at the nursery said it would be there in spring. They sell all their semps already potted and established. If I buy one, would it be ok to plant it in the ground sometime in May? Because last year we had snow storms on and off until the end of April, and we were told that was quite mild compared to the regular they get around here.

I know this isn't the sedum thread, but I don't want to go all the way over to that thread, and I might as well ask while I'm here. Call me lazy. Should I water my sedum? We've been having days of sunshine for a while now, and above freezing. Would it kill it if I were to water it a little bit? It's looking quite scary, and I'm not sure if it's from lack of water.

Good morning Johannian. Can you show us a photo of your sedum? It might be the normal winter die back you are seeing.
If the ground is dry you should water them.

The earlier the better for planting semps but you don't want a greenhouse grown plant to get frosted either. You might have to cover the plants if cold weather is predicted just to get them over the hump. Once they're established in your climate they should be fine and not require any extra protection,

Some sedums die to the ground so this is a natural process for some. Others are evergreen. My inclination would be not to water anything this time of year. Of course I'm getting PLENTY of rain here.

but it looks like some kind of sexangulares/acre type, or petrosedum type?

Is the ground dry? When was your last rain? Or watering?

The ground has been dry because of the drought we're currently experiencing.

Last rain was today (about two hours ago), but it was only twenty-seven seconds. It passed within that time, because it was a really small. We expected it to be short, so we checked to see how long it would go.

I haven't watered it since I first planted it about a month or so ago, because we've had on and off rain showers.

Again, if the soil is dry, I would water the sedum. They appreciate the moisture.

Ok, then. We have some pretty big rain clouds coming our way, though, so should I wait and see if they pass? There's a possibility for the next few days. If it doesn't rain by tomorrow morning, should I just water it?

Did you use a hand trowel to see if there is moisture in the soil?

I checked with my finger, and I didn't feel any moisture. I'm afraid of using a hand trowel because it's in such a tight area that I could easily damage the plant when using a trowel.

Looking at your photo, it looks like the ground is very dry. I would water it. It also looks like you have a lot of dead bloom stalks on top of it.

Sedum do appreciate rain more than other hardy succulents like semps

Alright, I'll water it. It's really warm today anyway, so it's not like it'll be freezing out there.

This plant looks like Sedum sarmentosum. Here in NC this plant is just going through its winter dieback but will arise again in the spring. A little water would be in order.
