I was walking my dog Buster, when he stepped in a patch of something that caused him pain. There were a bunch of thorns in his foot, so I removed them. After getting him home, I went back and took a look at the plant. I know what it is, commonly referred to here as a "goat head." I removed the plant so no one else would step in it.

I might add, this plant is a big pain, in more ways than one.

I just have one question. What is the exact species called?

Thank you, and don't worry, Buster has recovered. The thorns weren't embedded too deep.

Toshi the Terrible Terrier can understand Buster's pain. He too has fallen victim to the evil Goat's Head caltrops. A couple years ago, I had to walk a couple miles home because I rode over one with my bike tire. D'Oh!

Actually, I think the scientific name is hilarious.

Wait a minute….

Tribulus? Tribulation? Is there some kind of connection there?

I think there is……..

The scientific name basically means "tribulation on earth." A good name!
