I was walking my dog Buster, when he stepped in a patch of something that caused him pain. There were a bunch of thorns in his foot, so I removed them. After getting him home, I went back and took a look at the plant. I know what it is, commonly referred to here as a "goat head." I removed the plant so no one else would step in it.

I might add, this plant is a big pain, in more ways than one.

I just have one question. What is the exact species called?

Toshi the Terrible Terrier can understand Buster's pain. He too has fallen victim to the evil Goat's Head caltrops. A couple years ago, I had to walk a couple miles home because I rode over one with my bike tire.

The scientific name basically means "tribulation on earth." A good name!
