Thread OP

Good morning/afternoon,

I've been growing this E. Hypogaea for quite some time now. Recently, noticed these buds growing off it and I can't 100% confirm what they are.

First thing that comes to mind is flower buds. I couldn't find an image of this plant's flowers on the internet to check. Also, most of these are brown, dry, and I'm positive I would've noticed if it bloomed (I would love to make it happen).

Any information and help is much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Pierson R.

Welcome!

That's a really nice plant. In my experience, the pineapple/pinecone shaped Euphorbias have flowers that come out of amongst the leaves on long stems. Like this:

So based on where those buds are, they could conceivably be the beginning of flowers. I'm not sure why they are drying up though.

Those would be buds of one sort or another (branches or blooms). I have no experience with this species, but it apparently does branch higher up as well as at the base. Your plant looks amazing. I don't know what the cyathia (flowers) look like. This species looks a whole lot like hybrids of bupleurifolia, but evidently is its own beast.

I revisited the second volume of the Euphorbia Journal where they talk about this species and they do not mention cyathia at all. Nor was I able to find any kind of cyathia on a google image search. So if your plant is that big and it's never flowered, don't hold out a whole lot of hope that it's about to do so.

I am impressed by the size of your plant and would be most curious to see the cyathia look like, if any of these buds turn out to be blooms. Smiling

Welcome!

Down the road I'd like to get my hands on either so I can compare! I doubt it's be easy to get any of them here in Canada...
