It's a new year, and there's no better time to start a new tradition. This is for fun, so keep it less competitive.

If you have any themes for future contests, shoot me a Tree-mail.

Directions:
Submit a photo that matches the theme. You can submit as many photos as you want.
Have fun!

This month's theme is "new beginnings", as it's a new year..
Your propagation
Plants you grew from seed
Plants you grew from cutting
Plants you grew from leaf
The starting of a new plant

We encourage you to like the picture(s) you like the most. You can like your favorite, or if you like all of the pictures, like all of them! I highly encourage you to give pictures Acorns. Show other members your support!

This theme will end at the end of January, and a new one will be up in February.

Have fun,
Evan.

Well, I'll be the first to go. These are some random Echinopsis seedlings. If they have colored flowers, I'll send some to @mcvansoest. Here's one of my seed trays. Not great germination, but we are less than 3 weeks in. Still many more to Germinate.

First flower on a presumed hybrid Echinopsis I grew from seed. I had hoped for a new color, but like the cactus body the flower is very much like one of its parents which is of the Fuzzy Navel/Dominos/Dolores type:

The blooms on Dominos fold up by noon here. It opens during the night. Does this bloom last longer once the sun is up?

Nope, it was taken pretty early in the morning, closed up well before noon. Most of my Echinhopsis hybrid flowers are open for a few hours in the morning and then done. Some of my hybrids that have significant amounts of what used to be Trichocereus genes and the associated shorter but larger flowers tend to last longer and sometimes make it to a second day of being open.

I found some Ice, and decided it was a good time to plant Sempervivum seeds.

I have shared some images of this plant (Aeonium nobile) on the forum before, but here's a particularly lush one showing how it looks at the moment, after the rains.

I beheaded it in October. I would think I might start harvesting the offsets in late winter. This process is really fun to watch unfold. Smiling The mother plant really doesn't want to give up.

@Baja_Costero
I'll have to check on my Atropurpureum. It has too many pups...

Baja, the Nobile that I have seen here is a more bluish green color. I wonder why yours is such a lush jade green? Maybe yours just got a lot more attention, and kindness Rolling on the floor laughing

My most recent propagation -- a little 'arm' that I accidentally broke off my Buddha's Temple Crassula a few weeks ago. It didn't root very quickly, and got pretty stress-brown and dehydrated, and I nearly gave up on it. But when I checked the base, it looked like there might be the start of roots, so I decided to give it a little longer. I watered it once more, then left town for several days over Christmas -- and came home to this perky green baby! Color me surprised.

Coming near the close of January, here's a group shot of the plants that left the nursery this month. Once they fill 6 inch pots and have moved on to something bigger (8" pots in this photo) they are official graduates, with a little diploma and wax seal and everything. So they leave the area with shade cloth to inhabit the real world (ideally with full sun this time of year).

Those are all plants I have propagated. The whiteness of the pumice tells you how recently I repotted them. New beginnings, as it were. Smiling

Still thinking of what to do for February. Anyone have any ideas? I dunno, shortest month, smallest plants? I'm all ears!

2002, start with de-grafting some beautiful gymnos, the first time doing this, follow the Asian style, cover with plastic for maximum moisture, hope it works. Smiling
Made a mistake while de-grafting, I twisted the gymnos from the rootstock, may have created too much damage to the cactus, should have used knife instead.
