Sometimes I plant them all in one pot. Treat them like any lily with a bulb that size. if you think they will be enough room to grow all together, then do it! Obviously, it depends on the size of the pot, too. They need winter protection just the same as any other lily of that type. No more, no less. I plant them about an inch deep, regardless of the size.
Lily bulbs will always grow contractile roots if the bulb is not as deep as the plant would like. The purpose is to re-situate the bulb in the soil to an area that is more to its liking. Contractile roots look like they have ribs like an accordion and are temporary structures, lasting one to three years, I think. They are relatively long, with branching roots only at the end that form an anchor. When the root begins to die, it shrinks and pulls the bulb down (or toward wherever that anchor is).
