Wanting to plant a few small beds of bromeliads but Ants everywhere. We use andro on a regular basis but are still plagued by ants to the extent that I have been unable to plant anything in the ground. Looking for advice on how to get rid of the ants once and for all and how to prepare beds for bromeliads (currently all sand topped with mulch & always loaded with ants). Thanks Florida Gardeners!

Amdro has a new (to me) product that takes care of all ants, not just fire ants. I have found it helpful but you have to make sure you get all the ant hills which is difficult. This site has some good info.

I would try the boiling water in that area since you've not planted in it yet. I have used that in areas with no plants, and after a few full teapots of boiling water the mound was extinct.
Do-it-yourself Pest Control has all kinds of ant baits and are very informative on how to get rid of them, make sure if you have pets to get one safe for pets.
