A possibility, especially if roots were damaged or broken.
That said, I hack the hell out of roots sometimes if needed, but with monsteras I try to be gentle.
I'd cut any leaves yellow/brown more than ~30%-50%, at that point they're drawing energy from the plant but not contributing to its health anymore.
Just keep an eye out for new leaves that might be pushing out the bottom portion of them stem.
