Thread OP

Hi all,
Bought a pack of 100 mixed lithops seeds off E
bay without much for expectations shipping them here to NH but gave it a try. Seeds were sown in a 4 inch pot on 2/8/2022 and on 2/12 I'm seeing 5 little babies and with a magnifying glass they sure look like lithops.Everything I've read said 9 to 14 days before you should see the first ones so is this too soon and they are something else? I've got them about 1 ft under led grown lights and a heater under the pot that keeps them around 78f.... have a baggie over the pot to keep it humid.
Other readings say to remove the baggie when they sprout. Hoping I have many more yet to sprout but don't want to kill these so ideas pls on when to pull the baggie. House is only around 20% humidity but I do have a small humidifier I could "point" at them. Thanks.

They look like some kind of C&S seedlings. I can't confirm they are lithops without a better picture. Probably lithops. Early sprouting = fresh seeds.

Thread OP

Up to 19 sprouts so far here on day 6! still hoping for some advice on when to take the baggie off that's keeping all the humidity in. Lacking any advice I'm just watching and counting and I'm playing it like a bag of popcorn ... once I think they are most done popping I'll move on to the next step so that I dont wipe out the whole batch. I did read how its not a bad idea to save the pot and soil and after a dry period try again to get more seeds to germinate in the future. So thinking as I type maybe I'll consider 50 a whopping success and move on with weaning them off the humidity bag and try for the other 50 at a future date.
But still would love some experienced sage ....
Regards
John

Just wait until they are one month old. Or when they are the size of a Pea. Around there.

I have grown lithops from seeds before, eventhough after one year the lithops died. I would say to keep the plastic bag on to maintain the humidity. They will grow healthier and faster inside the plastic bags.

They grow so slow. Mine all died as I could not give them the attention that they need. Need a lot more work than adult plants.

Yes, so slow, last time I didn't know that they are winter grower, I tried to give them more sunlight to push the growth, after 1 year only reached the size of 3 - 4 mm, and at the end mine were neglected and die.
