Because they are easy-to-grow houseplants, and are very forgiving for pruning, I've been experimenting with different shapes with my coleus. Lots of trial and error, but I've been pleased so far.

Fantabulous! Those look amazing. Totally agree, Coleus are great learning plants for pruning/bonsai.

Thank you. And so much faster than hardwood bonsai. The multi-stemmed project above is just 1 year old. I just don't have the patience (or room in my apartment) for traditional bonsai.

You're doing bonsai, it just may not end up being several hundred years old. You might also like a little succulent Plectranthus with small leaves. So closely related to Coleus.

I agree with Tiffany and Bea! Love the shape! My sister grows a lot of coleus!

Thanks. I'll check that out. I've also started doing bonsai on a Jade plant, so I'm liking the succulents, although they are much slower growing.

Agree, results take a long time to manifest on a Jade. ; )

That looks great, Pete. We do have a nursery in NJ that specializes in topiary plants, Atlock Farms. They do a lot of coleus topiaries as well as other plants. In their heyday, they had so many great plants but now they are only open one day a week.
Anyway, your coleus looks especially great for indoor plants. Mine tend to lose their colors after a while.
