I think the leaves and flower of this lovely violet look more like Viola sororia than V. bicolor. Compare the leaf shape and flowers to the other photos in the database and at the NC Cooperative Extension web site:

Okay I certainly see your point. I used the Radford key for determining the species on this viola. It was 1 of the caulescent species in the key of which there are 3. No species "sororia" in this text; however, I'm renewing my interest in botany and I've missed a lot over the years. So your right it does look correct. Please change.

P.s. I originally keyed it to "rafinesquii", saw none on the site and found wiki had a synonym of bicolor as rafinesquii.

I wonder if this resource might help you to check your ID's after (or even before) you key your specimens? It has a lot of good info about native and naturalized plants of the Carolinas and Georgia.
