I did a walk around the beds this morning. Here is what stands out as red for me today.
'Red Zinger' has a heavy layer of wax, making it shine. This one is new to me, and the database photos don't show summer color. Love it, and absolutely no winter damage, except for a little hail damage.

This little red one has fleeting red coloration. As the warm weather progresses it changes to tones of orange/yellow. I'm not good at describing colors. Rolling my eyes.

What are your standout reds in your collection? Looking forward to seeing yours. Hurray!

I like the 'red zinger'. No red semps unfortunately. (though I do have quite a few red Aeoniums). Smiling

Evan, Mountain Crest Gardens just put 'Red Zinger' back on their available list.
When you look at its pedigree, it is a well-bred semp. I look forward to using it in crosses when it blooms. That may be a few years away.

Wow Red zinger is really that CRANBERRY SAUCE red!!
Not much "super red" right now, but one of my seedlings is quite red, slightly pink.

Take good care of that precious seedling Alex. What fun it will be to see how it's color advances by next year.
You would absolutely love 'Red Zinger', you should give it a try.

Great looking red ones you got Lynn. And that Red Zinger introduced in 2021 by our own JungleShadows here aka Kevin Vaughn!...

Several reds stand out at this time of year: Fuego; Red Zinger; Rubikon; and Glowing Embers. However, none of them are what I would call a true red as they all shade towards maroon.

Yes, 'Red Zinger' is by Kevin Vaughn. Big Grin
Maybe Kevin can add some photos to the database entry, so we can see the color in summer?
I have many of Kevin's semps. Treasures, each one.

Am glad you are all happy with 'Red Zinger'. I have the next generation seedlings and one I have tentatively named "Red Licorice" is exactly that color year round. It is a little smaller and has more leaves than 'Red Zinger'. I should have a thousand or so more rom tis line to row out this spring.

'Flasher', an old one of mine can be very red and BRIGHT red, but I haven't got any improvements from it. It evoked a phone call from Helen Payne when I sent the plant to her with a "We can sell lots of that one, Kevin." It has almost no purple.

Kevin, I agree. 'Flasher' had a wonderful true red color starting in April.

Smaller more leaves?
That's exciting!
I don't think theres many small red semps?

Alex,

No smaller than 'Red Zinger' but it's still 5 1/2".

I do have a couple smaller reds out of oddly enough 'Green Ice' and I also have one that is a very vigorous clumper that is red and small.

Evan, REAL reds are relatively rare. Most are red-purples. You do have some good red-green bicolors that have a true red color too.

Ok, so I found this while feeding /watering. Not sure it qualifies but out of the collection, that's all I got.

That is a beautiful color combination, Bev. That particular cultivar goes through some great color changes, but seems to keep that red going.

Lynn, I was floored when I opened a package one day and found a couple of Hualalai's sent by a person I believe owns the biggest pot (diameter of ~ 25 inches) of Frost and Flame in the garden.

Great thread Lynn,
Here are a few of my reddest at the moment…

'Glowing Embers'

I do think 'Red Zinger' is probably the zestiest red cultivar I have, great color retention on that semp! I'm really a big fan of it's parent plant, another of Kevin's; 'Watermark King'. I raised some seed from 'Watermark King' in 2020, it's a bit more on the black/purple side of red, but it gives tremendous depth of color to it's seedlings. At the moment this is probably my reddest from it…

This cross from WK to 'Shirley's Joy' has really been a favorite of mine, I think the pronounced fringe cilia on such a deep back drop is quite beautiful, as weather warms this one will glow red as Rudolph's nose!…

This one I've set aside for propagation, it handles weather well and it's always some shade of red. If it continues to preform well it might get a name. It's a 'Silverine' seedling selected from a bee pollenated lot…
