Oh, Hetty, I fertilize my broms...just not with MiracleGro into the crown. We grow pineapples and they NEED fertilizer...but put into the bracts of the bottom leaves.

And again, we are talking different soils and growing conditions! I spoke too emphatically *Blush* whereas I should have said that this was under my conditions and soil type.

This is Billbergia windii on June 1st. It's the second time it has bloomed this year.

This is the same plant this afternoon, June 13. Timing is everything! It's just loaded with blooms and more in the center ready to push up.

Thanks, Jonna and Kristi,

I used auto-correct because of the sun, and the color is really off on the above photo. I didn't know I could undo it after I got out of photo program. I'm going to try to re-post the photo.

I don't know of anything I've done differently to make it bloom so well. I think the warmer Feb/Mar may have tricked it into blooming again. It usually blooms twice a year, but not this many flowers. I fertilize with that "recipe" concoction. I don't use Miracle-Gro on them. This was taken today. You can see there's more coming out of the top and sides of the plant. Maybe it likes being crowded in the pot.

I'd say it really does like being crowded. I love your David head, I've been looking for a head I could plant. I've even considered mannequins but I think it would need to be made of something stronger.

Ya mean "Spike?" He won a blue ribbon too for his Dyckia hairdo. I had to "groom" him with long tweezers to get the leaves out of his head for the show. I like him because he never talks back, or asks for money!

This is Matchstick still blooming in July, but now the blooms are all a dark fuschia pink. There's no blue and pink as in the photo I posted here on May 21 of this year.

My nice variegated NOID broms are putting up lots of blooms, it must be feeling like fall to them! They usually respond to the first 'cool' front. But maybe just the few days we've had without rain has pushed them to start. More pics in a few days when the flowers open all the way.

I had some follow me home today! Bought some at a lovely home that was being half demo-ed! Had two trees worth to cut off and managed to get most of them without damage. Put some out around my coral stone boulders and a neighbor and I are going to put the rest in trees on Friday. One was attached so firmly to a rock that the rock came home with me as well. Flung them onto sheets and dragged them thru the house and then flung them into the car. Money well spent!

Beautiful blooms Elaine. I think my EEs think fall is coming. They seem be shutting down.

Welcome Debi. I wish I'd find a demo'ed house here! Of course, it would probably only have cacti and salvias.

I had to re-read your post because I was shocked that you dragged them through the house! The second time, I read "half demo-ed." For a moment, I wondered why anyone would let you drag plants through their house! Whistling When you get time, let us see your bromeliads.
