Enjoys or suffers hot summers
Hi all, I have two large containers on my front porch and I'm hoping to grow hydrangeas in them. I would like suggestions on dwarf varieties. My house faces north so it gets morning shade and afternoon full sun. I was thinking in the range of white or pink, but any color would be fine as long as it is a dwarf variety (no bigger than 1 1/2' to 2' tall and a 3' spread. Thanks for any and all suggestions. Italy
I just bought blue and white hydrangeas this year and planted them in containers on my terrace; in hindsight, it may not have been a great idea because they are on my terrace with very little shade, and oh yeah, did I mention I live in Italy, so it gets pretty hot. Heat is not exactly what hydrangeas prefer, but hey, their still alive and will probably have to create shade for them when it gets hotter. They look beautiful, but the blue one is doing better than the white one. I'm not much help and I think you've made a great choice because they are beautiful

Angie, thanks for sharing. I love your hydrangeas! Sorry I'm picking up your message so late. I had thought about Little Spooky which is a dwarf and white but alas, we had storms (I'm on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the states) and too many forest trees came down on my property and had to be dealt with ($$$). So I stuck with the usual cheap stuff for my containers (begonias, creeping jenny). Plus, no garden center in my area had any dwarf, white hydrangeas so for next year I'll have to search for them and have them shipped. I hear you re the heat. My niece was in southern Italy over the summer and she always had a hand fan in photos but she wants to go back. Again, thanks for sharing. Ciao! Gayle
