Are you a full time gardener-slash-photographer?
Well, I can't go cause I have my flower garden at my parents house in a village about 10 km away.
No car. Must take a bus, hitchhike, friend, etc.
And I don't always have time.
I go about 2 afternoons (after work) and usually the Saturdays.

I love that blue/white iris in the first pics! Is it a dwarf or medium one??? I can't tell.

Calin, neither dwarf nor media. It´s a Tall Bearded (TB) named 'Autumn Circus'. At first day of bloom without sun the color will be blue. Than it changes to blue violet. Here is teh link to DB:

I also have one, but a much smaller one, and still not blooming yet.

Well I found out that I have also a similar tall bearded iris to Autumn Circus, it´s named (must be ...) "Blue Pettycoats"

German... well, I took 3 years of Deutsche Sprache in school, when much younger... we were bad, and the teacher could not control us.
And the "der, die, das and so on" never imprinted on my brain ...

Nice pics. It's raining here, so that's good news for me.

Today I will show how I harvest the pollen and fertilize times the bearded iris. But I have a special approach to the flower with the pollen harvest not peeling.

For this I use a special tweezers. Which has on the one hand, a V-shape and on the other hand, the counterpart. So I can snip threads and keep the pollen stamens. Everything you can see on the pictures. The point is to fertilize directly above the beard.





Here is a pregnant dwarf "Firestorm". So I'm happy.

DO these come true from seed?

So, that's now a word game. If you read in the DB for a cultivar: "(Propagation) Will not come true from seed", that means
the offspring may be different than the Parentage. But new Cultivar (new plant hybrids) always come true from seeds! Thats the way hybridizing goes.
An example for Iris 'Autumn Circus' (DB Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Autumn Circus')).: Parentage is the cross of (Space Odyssey x Socialite) X Earl of Essex. That means Space Odyssey as a potparent is crossed with Socialite (pollenparent). That result is the potparent and Earl of Essex is the pollenparent.

In my opinion, the hybridizing daylilies is easier and faster than the iris. Therefore, the iris is just a little project of mine.
