Thread OP

Hi! I was doing some planting in our potager garden at work, and found a very small Japanese Maple sapling had sprouted in one of the beds (we have two 10-ft JMs in the garden, they're BEAUTIFUL). I put it in a temporary pot and brought it home. Ultimately, I'd like to plant it in my yard. Is there a good guide on how to bring up the sapling, or does anyone have some good tips? I live in south Louisiana.

Welcome!

The hard part is over, you have a healthy baby tree. Put it in a 1 or 2 gallon pot and let it grow for a couple years then plant it out. I have a couple JMs I grew this same way. I watch the seedlings, decide which have potential and dig them up.

There is a Japanese Maples forum here; you might get better response.
Part shade rather than full sun! And don't let it be waterlogged. Also keep it out of ridiculous winter/spring wind if you're in a cold climate! Those are the highlights I've noticed.
