I noticed that one of our kalanchoes had softening leaves with some chlorosis. Tissue death/drying has occurred with some. I've taken photos of a few of the leaves that fell off. This started in the last few days and is spreading aggressively. My two theories are:

-Rot due to cool mist humidifier being used to keep parlour palms happy (our winters here are extremely dry). I've cut down how long it's on for. It was originally on the grow light timer and misted as long as lights were on.

-Nitrogen deficiency or surplus. I was inattentive while fertilizing in September and overfertilized a number of plants. They didn't show any signs for quite some time. All affected plants, including this kalanchoe, were leached. It improved for a bit and symptoms returned. It was leached again and was doing great. It REALLY needs to be repotted and get new soil, which is likely depleted. I'd given it a small bit of fertilizer two weeks ago as it'd been a few weeks since being leached.

I've attached photos as reference.

Any advice would be VERY appreciated.

Hi & welcome! Your plant looks thirsty and tired. If it was mine, I would cut the stems into smaller sections and start a fresh pot in fresh soil. Kal stems take root within days, just stick them in a pot like arranging flowers, in the same direction in which they were growing. Remove a few leaves if needed to have 2-5" of bare stem to sink into the soil.

Do you have a spot with more light? All of the leaves are curled down from less-than-ideal exposure.

I live in a humidity zone, Kals don't mind at all. I wouldn't worry about that.

Thank you for your advice! That kalanchoe has been through a lot. It's one of my rescues from an office arrangement that nobody took proper care of. It's doing much better in those photos than when I got it!

It's right under an LED grow light strip. They're good strips, but they don't have a ton of oomph. The kalanchoe used to be under punk/purple light, which it lived, but it also caused such a growth in height that etifoliation has resulted. Still figuring that one out. I suspect timing was the culprit. I think that it's time to move him under the bigger lights. We have a number of them, each with different spectrums and set to different intensities and heights. We use them for different plants and purposes. I'll start it under the light that the plants under it always go wild for and maybe move it to another light, depending on its reaction to the light.

Thank you again!

My pleasure! There are a ton of pics here to give you an idea of what your plant can "do." If the light is enough, there should be blooms every year over winter/spring.

I have hopes for this fella. He's been through a lot and seems to be a plant who doesn't back down from bouncing back. He's bounced back from a lot, namely him and the other plants in that arrangement being ignored and getting improper everything. There was no shortage of etifoliation, nutrient deficiencies and very thirsty plants. They were very sad when I got them and some rough patches aside, they're all usually singing.

I like describing my plants as such. I don't know why. To me, it shows two things: that you care about your plants and that certain degree of insanity that one needs to obsess over their plants!
