Hello everyone,

I am a rosarian from San Francisco who is planning on exploring the world of tulips and daffodils by growing a few in containers in Fall this year. The front side of my house is north-facing, and it receives a considerable amount of sunlight in the afternoon. My roses never had an issue in blooming at the said location. The backyard/main rose garden is south-facing, and most of the yard receives sufficient sunlight. I've been thinking of planting tulips and daffodils in containers for early-mid Spring bloom. When they are done blooming, my roses will start to bloom. There is a tulip garden as a part of Golden Gate Park here, which tells me that I could grow tulips in San Francisco weather. Besides some standard fundamentals on bulbs, I am a beginner in tulips and daffodils. It's safe to say I am only knowledgeable about growing and tending roses.

Could anyone here offer some guidance and pointers to steer me in the right direction in growing tulips in containers, please? I've decided I will be treating the tulips and daffodils as annual. I've read that it is possible to treat it as a perennial, but it won't have the same effect regarding bloom size.

Thanks,
Shyam

Your big problem will be giving them the chilling period that they need for rooting. You may be able to buy bulbs which have been pre chilled.
Or maybe an unused refrigerator would work? I would consult one of your local garden centres which sells bulbs.
