Gerris2,
beautiful bud & blooms. Thumbs up

Got my little "starter plant" a few weeks ago, so I don't expect
much this year (will not let it bloom even if it tries).
But it's doing well, and I'll just have to be patient.

Does yours live outside during the winter, or do you make cuttings
for spring?

Gorgeous color and flowers. Love it, except for the ants it attracts. Maybe I'll try growing it again next year.

Do you start new plants from seeds or cuttings for next year, or does the plant
go dormant during the winter?

I overwinter it indoors. Each year it gets bigger.

Ok......I'm going to make as many as I can! nodding

BTW, I once had a beautiful "lipstick" salvia ~12yrs ago......6ft x 6ft, with relatively large magenta petals protruding from
the dark base, with large glossy spade-shaped leaves.....very impressive plant.
But I didn't propagate it, and eventually lost it, and have never found one like it since.
So I plan to "back up" this one, just in case....and also to have more blooms. ;)

I just collected what looks like a viable seed from my Salvia oxyphora plant! That's something I thought I would never see.

This is a beautiful plant. Gerris, did your outside plant not survive?
I haven't read the entire column, but early on you had planted one
outdoors and it had survived a mild winter. I'm guessing it perished?

I love salvias.

Angie, thanks so much for your comment! Alas, that outdoors-grown plant died the following winter. It is an easy one to overwinter indoors, and one to recommend to you. The fuzzy red flowers are real hummingbird bait and are to die for.

Thanks, Marilyn! I should sow it to see if it is viable. I won't do that for a while, however.
