I have a small spot in my tiny yard, where I could potentially put some sedums. I would love some recommendations on how to make that area look more interesting. The plan is to line it with Aeoniums, and in the area behind the Aeoniums, plant sedums. Hopefully the Aeoniums will be protected by frost cloth... By the way, no, I haven't watered that lawn since I moved in. Thank You!

I have few cold hardy sedums, But I think I have petrosedum, phedimus spurius, and some confused kimnachii or confusum. Smiling

Would the aeoniums grow tall and block sedum from view?

I planted only low growing varieties. It actually sits on a small slope, the Aeoniums planted on the slope, and the Sedums will have to be on the top. Smiling

Next, I would love some sedum suggestions. I was planning to use some Dendroideum, for the back...

So no tall stuff for the sedum section? Could border sedums be considered if not wanting all to be ground cover sedums?

Hylotelephium?
Those are a super good choice!! Seeing what Aeonium likes, I think the ones from Sunsparkler series (Especially the variegated ones) and Phedimus atlantis are a good choice.

I know that the opuntia cacti are cold-hardy. There are some mini-opuntias like Santa Rita Baby, which is also purple, that do not get huge and would make a great background for sedums. They have gorgeous flowers. It all depends on what you want. I got my first opuntia recently. It had a new growth the size of a pinky finger tip on it, and within about 3 weeks it was a perfect new paddle, meaning they grow pretty fast. I'm just suggesting this as some "height" but the needles might not be right for your lifestyle (children, dogs).

That's what I was thinking Aoniums that I have seen are often tall. But then, maybe the OP was thinking about autumn joy type tall sedums?
