Thread OP

My friends are getting married in a couple of months and want to hand out planted bottles to their close friends using wine bottles identical to this.
Thumb of 2022-05-04/Humboldt/253167
Not sure what could be grown in there with basically zero physical maintenance.
Could drop a few inch plants or pilia maybe, mosses, ferns. I don't think it's going to work the way they want though.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Interesting idea , I have no info, I would get bonkers trying to install the soil, plants, etc and have the inside walls of the bottle stay clean. Challenging project!
Plant it and they will come.

Congrats to your friends!

I like the idea of the bottles, but I would put other things in there. A little scroll of the invitation, or ceremony, or other "message in a bottle", tied with a cute little bow, some faux greenery stems, maybe a base of pretty aquarium gravel or sand, buttons or beads, tinsel, whatever fits the opening & the theme.

A similar idea could be little solar lamps made from mason jars. I've done this, not expensive. I bought the solar jar lid lights and jars separately. I glue seashells to the out side of some, put pretty rocks in some, put seashells in some. As wedding favors, the outside could be covered with some pretty sheer fabric and a bow, &/or with some objects or decorations inside.

Check the fit before you commit. I glued shells to one jar that doesn't fit the solar top. At a glace it looked like the same size opening, but it's not.

Nothing to do with what you asked, but on the topic of wedding stuff, I saw a case of tiny bubble tubes (that you use to blow bubbles) recently. Like 50 for $15. The kind of thing that could be on the tables at the reception for guests to blow bubbles. I think it would be fun & festive to have people blowing bubbles @ a wedding.

If fitting theme, I love the message in a bottle idea. Especially if they knew somebody who could get them all kinds of aquarium stuff at cost... Hilarious!
Solar jars sound fun. I have not heard of them.
Plant it and they will come.

Were you able to suggest anything that the happy couple wanted to use?

Nope, they really want to stick with plants.

Coming up in a week or 2 so kind of late to steer them in a new direction.

Appreciate the great ideas though, thank you.

I know it's possible with goldfish bowls, etc...but I'd want a glass wok with a clear lid to pull it off!
