Sharon, what is that huge Hosta with the 25 eyes??

OK -- when it was 70 degrees out on Monday I moved back some leaves that were there all winter and I found some pips -- (and some ice) -- anyways -- had to cover them back up cause YEP you guessed it -- more SNOW is on the way for tonight!!! Happy May Day everyone!!!

So much for May!

Just heard that Mason City, Ia got 6" of snow and it's still snowing! I hope you're not in that storms path. After last year's drought, I'm not complaining about moisture...but shouldn't it be in the form of rain now?

It is amazing when you see it next to a person, it puts it into perspective real nicely.

Wow! Beautiful 'Sagae.' The ones I see in a lot of photos seem very densely leafed, while mine has big leaves, but is more spread out and vase-shaped. I wonder if that's an issue of maturity (mine is an extra-large division off a mature plant--probably a good 10-14 eyes when I got it), or maybe light conditions (mine grows in quite a bit of shade).
Check out Petiole Junction, my garden blog! (I'd love your comments.)

My 'Sagae' is on the north side of my deck, but gets exposed to quite of bit of sun. The balusters(pickets) from the railing provide a little shade but not much. It seems to tolerate the amount of sun it gets exposed to. It also gets shaded in the morning hours until about noon or 1:00 PM from the house.

I also provide "a ring" of compost and/or alfalfa pellets around the edges of the crown every spring on all my hostas. I think it does wonders for them.
I also don't let them dry out during the summer heat.
