This is a new plant this year and the first lotus I have had in this house. I have grown lotus at my previous home and never had this problem. The variety is Super Lotus (Juwuba)

Any ideas on what kind of hungry critter is munching on this one?

Oops, forgot to attach the photo. This pic was taken yesterday, there is already a hole in the new leaf.

If you have Japanese beetles in your area, they are the most likely culprits. They will not destroy lotus like they do with other plants, but are well known to chew holes through leaves.

I think I have identified the culprit - a snail! Does anyone have any thoughts on how to repel or eliminate snails in water pots? I use sluggo in the garden but in water?????

Turtle(s)! Even just an ordinary painted turtle would like a good, fat, juicy slug. nodding

Thinking We do live beside a pond and there are plenty of turtles around but I don't think a turtle could climb the walls of the pot.

Girdle the pot with adhesive copper tape. You can buy rolls of it on Amazon: just clean the sruface with alcohol beforehand and you are good to go.
There's a never ending debate on why snails won't cross copper-covered surfaces but they surely don't like them and that's enough for me.

Copper covered lengths of PVC tubing is what has allowed me to grow eggplants once again and girdling the containers I planted Hippeastrum in is what saved them from being devoured into oblivion.

Like minds...... On the advice of the lotus grower I have added some salt to the water and I put copper tape around the rim last evening. I will add more today, the Yellow Flies were biting last night and I only managed to get the one row around before giving up. I noticed there were tadpoles in the pot, hundreds of them. Apparently the salt did not harm them either.

Oh yeah, I didn't think of that. Maybe just stick (pun intended) a fat stick in the pot, for it to climb out?

Fish will also eat water snails, but I'm not sure if your pot is big enough for fish that will eat snails.

I have a mosquito dunk in there for mosquito control. The pot is large enough, 20 gallons at least, for fish but the water temp gets too hot in this area.
