ElPolloDiablo said: I'd like to get a couple to grow as houseplants. My experience with succulents is limited to Agave (Royal Spine), Yucca elephantipes and a lone Kalanchoe thyrsiflora: I haven't killed any yet and touching wood they all seem to be doing well, but I haven't experience with a full blown exotic such as A. obesum.
These plants would be inside on a windowsill during the Winter and outside in the Summer. Unless fuel prices drop dramatically my house temperature is 68F during the day and 60F during the night in Winter. Hilarious!

I haven't been able to find any detailed information if they need extra cares to bloom nor how quickly (or slowly) they grow, so any extra information is much appreciated.

@ElPolloDiablo the Adenium Forum has a lot of information but if you need specific info, the following members can help.

@deepsouth @wildbloomers @kaktus

I'm new in growing them myself.

@ElPolloDiablo

where are you ?

adenium are pretty easy .... but it is essential to follow a few "rules"

rule 1 - adenium are not houseplants - except when temperatures fall to freezing

rule 2 - adenium know only 2 seasons - wet season and the dry season ...
summer is the wet season - winter is the dry season
wet season adenium need lots of water - dry season water very little or not at all

rule 3 - water adenium like houseplants during the summer - treat like a cactus during the winter

rule 4 - adenium go dormant during the winter - the start of its dry season

adenium can bloom the first year

adenium require fast draining soil media

never let an adenium sit in water

I recommend to adenium growers to not use potting media containing peat moss -
peat moss holds too much water - and adenium roots will rot if kept in constantly wet potting mix

peat moss can be amended with rocks, lava rock, perlite, sand, pebbles, bark, charcoal

Outside, watering plants since the drought had merely taken a brief vacation now is back. Hilarious!

That is some excellent material right there, thank you very much.

I have found a person growing them semi-locally (30 miles away or so) and was very much intrigued by them since my mother always speaks about seeing them (tree sized) in full bloom 45+ years ago when she went to Tanzania for the first time. I will contact him and see when we can meet up to pick a pair.

One last thing: what container size for plant 4" high or so?

Thanks again you have been an invaluable help!

I meant where are you, so we can help better ....what part of the world may be better (some places are entering early summer - other parts of the world are entering early winter).....
a country, maybe city ... but not your actual street address ....
unless "The devil chicken" is preferred .... sorry - that's what google says ...

pot size is pretty much dependent on plant size ....you do not want too big a pot ...or too small a pot ....a 4" high plant ....for now, a unglazed Terra-cotta clay or plastic, shallow, 5" diameter pot, with a drain hole at bottom - don't forget the drain hole
