If you mean Amaranth, no those are not Amaranthus sp. Amaranth has alternate leaves, the plant in question has opposites leaves.

I am thingking of Fuchsia such as Fuchsia triphylla?

Thank you. My in laws were given a plant and they thought it was Chinese spinach but I knew it wasn't. I think it's what you said

I agree. That's a Fuchsia of some kind. It does remind me of F. triphylla 'Billy Green'.
